Hosting A Labyrinth Party

Labyrinth fans range from the light "I've seen the film and know the songs" fans to the heavy "I write fan fiction, create fan art, and live for the film" fans.  Regardless of where you fall on the scale of things, you might have considered having a Labyrinth-themed party.  The best thing about Labyrinth parties is that you can have one anytime for any reason.

Here is a list of 25 things to do, food to make, and decoration ideas to make your Labyrinth party spectacular!

Things To Do

1.   Watch Labyrinth and have a discussion about the film during or after the film.
This seems a little obvious and that's why we're getting it out of the way.  Watch the film and discuss it.  Plot holes?  Character dynamics?  Jareth's bulge?  What is your favorite thing to discuss?

2.  Play the new Labyrinth Board Game
Riverhorse just released the brand new Labyrinth board game!  Here is the LINK.  You can also find it at various places online including AMAZON.  I have not yet had the chance to play this game, but it looks incredible!  It's for 2-4 players.

3. Fan Art Friends?  Have A Drawing Circle!
If you and your friends are all artists, have everyone come over to draw Labyrinth fan art.  It seems kind of odd, but add some food and drink - it will be fun!  You could even set it up so everyone who comes over gets watercolor paper, watercolors, and a space to paint (or something along those lines).  Artists will totally get this and understand the fun behind art and drinking.

4. Fan Fiction Writers Workshop
If you and your friends are all fan fiction writers, why not have an in-person writers workshop?  Just like #3 for artists, this should be accompanied with food and drink.  A little feedback from fellow writers and some suggestions are always super useful.

5. Put On Some Tunes!
Put on the soundtrack and/or make yourself a playlist that includes the soundtrack and songs that you feel go hand in hand with the film.   Here are some popular song choices for your own playlist: "Magic Man" by Heart, "She Sells Sanctuary" by The Cult, "Never Trust A Stranger" by Kim Wilde, "The Gardener" by Marilyn Manson, "Cup of Brown Joy" by Professor Elemental, "Fairies Wear Boots" by Black Sabbath, and "Labyrinth" by The Cure.  You could always put some new age stuff in there like Enya or Loreena McKennitt, perhaps even some other fantasy film scores like 'Lord of The Rings' or 'Willow'.

6. Be A Crafty Fox
There are a lot of various craft projects that you can do.  I would search pinterest for ideas.  You could have a cookie decorating table or a knitting/crocheting circle or sculpting characters out of fimo or whatever you come up with.  People love being crafty and being able to take their craft home with them.

Food To Make

7. Peach Curd
This would be awesome served with toast and tea.  Recipe HERE.

8. Chicken a la Goblin King
TheGluttonousGeek has actually created a Labyrinth chicken recipe.

9. Peach Nerikiri
This is a Japanese dessert in the shape of a cute little peach.  The recipe comes from Washoku Guide.

10. Peach Mimosas
Who doesn't love the sparkly mimosa?  They're classy and delicious.  Here is the RECIPE.

11. Bacon Wrapped Peaches with Balsamic Glaze
These look awesome!  Recipe HERE.

12. Owlet Deviled Eggs
These would be easy to make and they look like little owlets.  Boil a pot of water with a tsp of salt.  Once the water is at a full boil, add the eggs.  Let them cook for 10 minutes.  Remove the eggs from the hot water and let them cool for an hour.  Remove the shells under cold water and rinse the eggs.  The filling is made of the yolks, mayonnaise, mustard, and whatever else you like in your deviled eggs.  Use green olive slices with pimentos for the eyes.  You can use carrot pieces for the feet.  Here's a recipe for standard deviled eggs.  Use the picture above as a reference for cutting and putting the owls together.

13. Owl Butter Cookies
We love owls because we love Jareth.  Owl cookies will make any Labyrinth party special.  Recipe HERE.

14. 1-hr Roasted Chicken
The goblins sure had a lot of chickens running around.  Why not make a roasted chicken for your party?  It's really not very hard.  Here is the RECIPE.

15. Green Goblin Cocktail

16. The Goblin King Cocktail

17. Homemade Peach Wine
I want to try this out for a party.  If it fails, there are quite a few peach wines out there that I can purchase.  Recipe HERE.

18.  Peach Tea
It seems like I'm pushing alcohol, but in fact I don't drink very often.  If you're a near-teetotaler, like me, then you might prefer peach tea or some Labyrinth-themed tea from Adagio Teas.

19. Fruit, Nuts, & Cheese Tray
Upon close examination of the ballroom scene, the party-goers are enjoying a lot of fruit.  I would suggest a fruit, nut, and cheese tray.  It's always party-friendly and you can put whatever you like on your tray.

20. Cornish Pasties
Traditionally, this particular food is associated with mining goblins called Kobolds.  They're basically meat and veggie hand pies.  Here is the RECIPE.

Party Decorating

21. Iridescent Ornament Balls
Hang up some iridescent ornament balls to capture the look and feel of Jareth's crystals.  This isn't super expensive, but it is very effective.

22. Make Some Eye Lichen
You can make your own eye lichen to spruce up your dwelling space.  Freak someone out by putting a little in the bathroom.  How to do it.

23. Make A Hedge Maze Rug
Want to give a hint of a labyrinth within your home?  It's really not that complicated.  You can make your own rug!  How to do it.

24. Decorate With Owls, Hands, Fairies, and Goblins
These little creatures will add some great atmosphere to your area.  You can make them or buy them.  I would suggest checking thrift stores for pieces and pinterest for how-tos.

25. Fairy Lights
It's usually pretty inexpensive to get a string or two of white fairy lights (aka white Christmas lights).  These are great for some subdued lighting, but if you're playing a game or drawing or writing, be sure to have a bright overhead light.
